About us
Kutztown Fire & Rescue is a 100% volunteer Department that runs approximately 500 calls annually and covers about 40 square miles of primary "first-due" coverage, which includes residential and rural areas, a light industrial section, Kutztown University, and Interstate 78. The Fire Department has about 30 members which operate 4 pieces of equipment, including a 2017 Ford F-350 Brush Truck, a 2017 E-One Cyclone II HM100' Ladder Truck, a 2023 E-One Typhoon Engine, and a 2023 E-One Typhoon Rescue.
Our Ladder has seen an increase in mutual-aid requests recently, resulting in an approximately 150 square mile area that is now either first- or second-due. With this increase, our focus has begun to shift from a primarily Rescue Company stance to one of a Truck Company. Our members that had not geared their training towards this have started pursuing Truck Company-related classes and certifications. We will still continue to maintain our proficiency in Rescue Company operations, as a large volume of our calls are vehicle accidents.
